Jharkhand High Court Stays State Government’s Cancellation of JSSC CGL, CDPO Exams

The High Court of Jharkhand stayed the state government’s notification that cancelled the recruitment examinations and appointments. The interim order came after several petitions were filed by newly appointed officers challenging the state's blanket cancellation of 22 recruitment processes.

In a major legal twist, the High Court of Jharkhand on August 20 stayed the state government’s decision to cancel multiple major competitive recruitment examinations, including the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level (JSSC CGL), Child Development Project Officer (CDPO), and the 11th–13th Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) examinations.

The court's intervention puts a temporary freeze on the government’s notifications issued earlier this week. Hearing petitions filed by newly appointed officers and affected candidates, the bench observed that regular appointments and established competitive processes cannot be abruptly terminated without adhering to the principles of natural justice. Jharkhand Recruitment Exam Cancellation: High Court Stays Govt Order Scrapping JPSC, JSSC Exams.

The state government had ordered the cancellation of 22 recruitment examinations following an intense 26-day student agitation over alleged paper leaks and procedural irregularities involving testing agency TSR Data Processing and Technical Limited (TDPL). The government’s order aimed to reset recruitment drives across departments, directly impacting over 1,900 candidates appointed through JSSC CGL, 342 civil servants under JPSC, and dozens of CDPO appointees.

The controversy gained momentum after anomalies surfaced in recent state civil services examinations, triggering protests and a subsequent CID investigation. Probe teams executed multiple arrests, including key personnel tied to the third-party testing firm. Under mounting pressure from student bodies, the administration announced blanket cancellations on August 18.

However, affected candidates—many of whom had already resigned from prior jobs and completed selection rounds—challenged the decision in court, arguing that untainted candidates were being penalized without individualized proof of wrongdoing. JSSC-CGL Cancelled: Hemant Soren Government Scraps TDPL Exams Since 2014 Amid Student Protests.

Jharkhand HC Stays State Govt’s Cancellation Order

With the High Court issuing a stay, all executive cancellation orders remain suspended until further proceedings. The court's directions in upcoming hearings will determine whether the state can proceed with fresh examinations or if prior selection lists will stand.
