New Delhi, January 6: Reacting on the JNU violence incident that took place on Sunday evening where masked men and women entered the campus and allegedly beat up students and injured several, Chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women, Swati Maliwal, summoned Delhi Police in regard to the case. Maliwal said that it is "shameful" that the girls were attacked by goons with rods, as the pictures and video clips showed. Swati Maliwal questioned as to how the men and women carrying wooden sticks and rods could enter inside the campus with their faces covered and attack the students. She called the attack on students in the campus "terror" and asked about the FIR and arrests made in the case. India's prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Sunday witnessed massive violence and vandalism as several masked individuals, both male and female, thrashed students, including girls, and teachers inside the campus with wooden and metal rods, injuring many. Over 20 students and several professors sustained injuries in the attack. Among those who were attacked are two office-bearers of the Jawaharal Nehru University Students Union (JNUSU), including President Aishe Ghosh - who was reportedly hit over the eye with an iron rod and sustained serious injuries.

Taking note of the violence, Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to Delhi police commissioner Amulya Patnaik on the violence that erupted inside the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Sunday evening. Shah asked for a report on the entire incident from the Delhi police. According to reports, Joint Commissioner Western Range, Shalini Singh, will investigate the case and submit the report. Union Ministers Nirmala Sitharamana and S Jaishankar, along with host of leaders cutting across political lines also condemned the violence that took place on the university campus.
