New Delhi, January 5: Jawaharlal Nehru University Student Union president Aishe Ghosh was beaten up by a mob inside the university campus. Ghosh was severely injured in the attack. According to reports, there were around 50 people who entered the university campus and starting beating students and also vandalised hostels. The JNU student union blamed Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists for the attack. Ghosh, while talking to media, said that she was brutally attacked by people who were wearing masks. She added, “I am not in a condition to talk right now. She was brutally beaten up.” The university authorities called the police to control the situation.

Meanwhile, reports also surfaced that the scuffle broke out over the hostel fees fee hike and boycott of registration for the upcoming semester exams. On the other side, ABVP also claimed that their supporters were also injured in the attack. the BJP's student wing  alleged that the left organisations were involved in the violence.

The attack came a day after the university administration alleged that the students protesting against the fee-hike vandalised the server room. The university has been witnessing students' protests over hostel fee hike for over 70 days.
