Ketan Agarwal Murder Case: Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary Deleted Chat History, Recycle Bins Before and After Crime
Pune Rural Police revealed that suspects Siya Goyal and Chetan Chaudhary wiped their phone logs before and after pushing realtor Ketan Agarwal off a cliff at Lohagad Fort. The duo had logged 238 hours of calls over six months. The case will move to a fast-track court with special public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam, as confirmed by CM Fadnavis.
The investigation into the murder of 25-year-old realtor Ketan Agarwal has intensified following the discovery that the prime suspects systematically wiped their mobile communication records. Police officials confirmed on Friday that 20-year-old Siya Goyal and her lover, 22-year-old Chetan Chaudhary, permanently deleted their entire phone chat histories and digital recycle bins both before and after the crime. The mobile devices have been transferred to a forensic laboratory to retrieve the logs of the deleted data.
Digital Trail and Premeditation Uncovered
Investigators with the Pune Rural Police revealed that Goyal and Chaudhary had maintained continuous contact for nearly six months leading up to the incident. During this window, the duo logged an extraordinary 2,004 phone calls totalling 238 hours of conversation. “During our investigation, it was revealed that both the accused deleted their chats before June 18 and after the Lohagad incident from their phones. The chats were deleted from the recycle bins of their respective phones,” a police officer connected to the investigation team stated. On the day of the crime, the suspects allegedly met at a local cafe to finalise their coordination. They mapped out the precise location at Lohagad Fort in Maval taluka where Agarwal would be pushed off the cliff.
Confession and Execution of the Plot
Gajanan Tonpe, Deputy Superintendent of Police for the Lonavala division, stated that investigators have firmly established active roles for both individuals. While Chaudhary initially maintained during interrogations that he was not present at the specific cliffside spot, investigators noted his narrative quickly collapsed under questioning. “It was evident that he was lying,” another police official remarked, noting that both suspects ultimately confessed and detailed the entire sequence of events. According to the final plan outlined by the police, Goyal gave a pre-arranged signal by sitting down. This prompted Chaudhary to approach from behind and push the unsuspecting Agarwal into the gorge. The police have since summoned Goyal’s brother and are calling in additional relatives and friends for further questioning. “We summoned Siya’s brother for the questioning, and other members and friends will also be summoned. So far, the roles of both Siya and Chetan have been established in the alleged murder of Ketan,” Tonpe said.
Fast-Track Court and Political Intervention
The gravity of the homicide has drawn immediate intervention from the state government. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met with the victim’s father, Vishal Agarwal, in Pune to assure the family of total administrative support. The state has formally accepted the family's requests to try the case in a fast-track court and has appointed veteran advocate Ujjwal Nikam as the special public prosecutor. Speaking to reporters, the Chief Minister noted that the incident reflects a deeply troubling social trend. “It is an extremely shocking and incomprehensible incident. As a society, we need to reflect on why educated young men and women from good families develop such criminal intent and a desire for revenge. This is not merely a criminal issue; it also has a social angle,” Fadnavis said. He added that society must foster robust support systems to ensure such vengeful thinking does not take root among the youth.
Family Disputes and Wedding Arrangements
The victim's father, Vishal Agarwal, expressed his grief and demanded full accountability. “We met Fadnavis ji and sought a speedy trial in the case. We also sought that the truth should be unravelled, and if there are any other people involved, they should also be booked. All those responsible for the murder of my son should get severe punishment,” he said. Addressing media speculations regarding Goyal's alleged dislike of his son over his use of a hairpiece, Vishal Agarwal questioned the motive. “...if she had any issues, she should have said no. What was the need to kill my son?” he asked. He confirmed that his son wore a small patch of wig, emphasizing that Goyal and her family had been explicitly informed about it prior to their formal engagement. According to police filings, Goyal and Agarwal were scheduled to marry in November, but she was reluctant to proceed with the union. Authorities allege that Goyal and Chaudhary subsequently hatched the conspiracy to eliminate him. Goyal’s mother defended her daughter's initial intentions, claiming Siya was reluctant to go to the fort on June 18 but was persuaded by Agarwal and his mother. “On the evening of June 17, Siya and Ketan had a video call, during which Ketan asked her to accompany him to Lohagad. During the call, Ketan’s mother also spoke to Siya and urged her to join him. Siya told her that she did not want to go trekking, as there was a function scheduled for the following day and she wanted to rest,” her mother stated.
Additionally, Goyal’s father dismissed rumours concerning an overly lavish wedding budget involving chartered aircraft and palace bookings in Udaipur. “It is true that the wedding was to take place in Udaipur. The hotel charged around Rs 81,000 per couple per day, and we had booked 70 rooms. Our total expenditure was not more than Rs 3 crore,” he stated.
