Kolkata, August 17: A speeding Jaguar car crashed into a Mercedes sedan which led to the death of two pedestrians in Kolkata. The road accident took place around 1:50 am on Friday, only a few metres away from the Shakespeare Sarani police station. The two deceased, identified as Kazi Mohammad Mainul Alam (36) and Farhana Islam Tania (28), were citizens of Bangladesh. Another Bangladeshi was injured in the mishap.

As the rain started, Kazi Mohammad and Farhana along with others took shelter under the shade of a traffic post. Suddenly, a Jaguar travelling at high speed hit a Mercedes sedan. The Jaguar, which was speeding at over 100 km per hour at the time of the accident, flung Mercedes car on the traffic post. Kazi Mohammad and Farhana died on the spot, another Bangladeshi and occupants of Mercedes sedan were injured. BJP MP Roopa Ganguly's Son Akash Mukhopadhyay Rams Car into Wall of South Kolkata Club.

The driver of Jaguar fled the spot after the mishap. "The vehicle belonged to a biryani outlet on Park Street. We have identified the owner. The culprit would be arrested shortly," a police officer was quoted by Hindustan Times as saying. According to an official of Bangladesh deputy high commission, Kazi Mohammad arrived in Kolkata last week for eye treatment. He was a resident of Jhinaidaha in Bangladesh. Farhana Islam Tania was an employee of Citibank. Only on August 15 night, Bharatiya Janata Party MP Roopa Ganguly's son was arrested for rash driving when his car hit a wall in Golf Garden area of south Kolkata.
