Mumbai, January 28: Congress president Rahul Gandhi will visit Chhattisgarh capital Raipur on Monday for a farmers’ gathering - ‘Kisaan Abhaar Sammelan’. In this maiden visit after the swearing-in of the Bhupesh Baghel-led party government in the state, Gandhi is intended to express gratitude to people and farmers for bringing the party back to power in the state after 15 years. Congress won the Assembly elections in the November polls, by securing 68 of the total 90 seats.

Days after Bahujan Samaj Party and Samajwadi Party announced their alliance for upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh, and there are high chances that both of them would decide on the constituencies and could announce the candidates for them. As per the alliance, both the parties would contest on 38 seats each in the state, leaving two for Congress and two for other alliance.

In another news, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Monday had called for a combined meeting of political parties of from the north-eastern state to discuss on the controversial Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016. The north-eastern states have been opposing the bill, since it was passed in Lok Sabha on January 8, 2018. Even, few of the states boycotted the celebrations of Republic Day.
