The notices were issued over discrepancies identified during the verification exercise. The Delhi election authorities, however, clarified on Sunday that receiving an SIR notice does not mean that a voter's name will be removed from the electoral roll.
Why Were SIR Notices Issued?
The notices are part of the Election Commission's verification process following the publication of the draft electoral roll on August 31. According to election officials, around 33.13 lakh voters have been identified for notices over discrepancies in their enumeration forms. More than 31.63 lakh notices had been served as of Sunday.
LK Advani, Family Members Receive Notices
Former deputy prime minister LK Advani, his daughter Pratibha Advani and daughter-in-law Geetika Advani have been served notices under the "no mapping" category. Advani and the family members concerned are registered voters in the New Delhi Assembly constituency. His son Jayant Advani's record was reportedly mapped successfully.
Manish Sisodia, Wife And Son Also On List
Former Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia, his wife Seema and their son Meer have also received notices. Officials have not specified a reason for Sisodia's individual notice. His wife's record has been flagged over a mismatch in her own name, while the notice issued to Meer cites a discrepancy involving his parent's name.
Kailash Gahlot And Family Included
BJP MLA Kailash Gahlot, who previously served as a minister in the Aam Aadmi Party government, has also received an SIR notice. His wife Moushumi Mishra Gahlot and daughter Jahnavi Gahlot were also included in the notices under the "no mapping" category, according to election officials.
Several Other Prominent Voters Served Notices
The latest list includes several other prominent names from politics and public life. Among those reported to have received notices are former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, former Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi, BJP MP Bansuri Swaraj and former Union minister Kapil Sibal.
Jaishankar and his wife were categorised as "unmapped with last SIR", while notices were also issued to family members of some other prominent voters.
Election Commission Clarifies Notices Do Not Mean Deletion
The Delhi Chief Electoral Officer's office issued a clarification after the notices to prominent voters attracted attention. It said a notice is issued to address discrepancies in electoral records and does not by itself mean that a voter's name will be deleted.
The authorities said no voter can be removed without an opportunity to be heard and a formal, appealable order. The election office also said voters receiving notices can submit their replies and supporting documents to the concerned Electoral Registration Officer or Booth Level Officer.
Verification Process And Deadlines
The claims and objections phase of the Delhi SIR will continue until September 30. Voters who have received notices have been asked to submit their replies and supporting documents by October 29. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on November 4, 2026.
Election officials said the notices are part of the verification process and that entries will be validated after the required documents and information are examined. The exercise is aimed at reconciling the current electoral records with the previous intensive revision and identifying discrepancies before the final roll is published.
