S Jaishankar, Ex-Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi, CBI Director Get SIR Notices in Delhi

Jaishankar and his wife are registered as voters in the Sunder Bagh electoral part of the New Delhi constituency. Their records have been categorised as “unmapped with last SIR”, indicating that the current entries could not be linked to the electoral rolls prepared during the previous revision in 2002. CBI Director Praveen Sood and Family Members

CBI Director Praveen Sood has also been named among prominent voters who received an SIR notice in Delhi. According to the list reported in connection with the ongoing exercise, Sood and members of his family have been flagged for verification. The notices are part of the same electoral-roll scrutiny being conducted by the Election Commission.

The notices are issued to allow affected voters to respond and provide supporting documents wherever required. The Election Commission has also issued notices to Sheba Brittas, wife of CPI(M) MP John Brittas, and their son Anand Brittas. Sheba's notice cites a “self-name mismatch”, while Anand's record has been flagged for a “parent-name mismatch”. Both are registered voters in the New Delhi constituency.

Several Other Prominent Voters in the List

The wider SIR exercise has also resulted in notices being issued to several other prominent voters, including former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and members of his family. Their records were categorised as “unmapped with last SIR”.

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has also received a notice over a discrepancy identified in her electoral records. Her case involved an age-gap discrepancy between her and her parents in the voter records, according to reports.

What the SIR Verification Involves

The Delhi SIR exercise includes door-to-door verification and scrutiny of enumeration forms. Voters whose records cannot be mapped to earlier electoral rolls, or whose details contain discrepancies, are being asked to provide supporting documents.

Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Ashok Kumar has said voters can submit claims and objections, while Electoral Registration Officers can consider documents beyond those specifically listed in a notice on a case-by-case basis.

Special camps are also being organised at polling stations to assist voters with corrections, fresh inclusions and objections.

Final Electoral Roll Process

The verification comes after the publication of the draft electoral roll. Voters whose names or details have been flagged are being given an opportunity to respond before the final roll is prepared.

The Election Commission's exercise has drawn wider attention because millions of Delhi electors have received notices or had their names flagged for discrepancies. A petition concerning transparency in the notice process is also scheduled to be heard by the Supreme Court on September 22. The SIR process will determine which entries remain on the final electoral roll after claims, objections and verification are completed.
