Jaipur, January 20: In a bid to help couples who face conflict from families after love marriage, the Rajasthan police is planning to roll out a new plan of setting up shelter homes for them. According to reports, the police department in Rajasthan is going to set up a shelter home to protect ‘love birds’ who face issues after marrying against the wishes of their parents. According to a report by Hindustan Times, Additional director general of police (ADGP) (Civil Rights) Janga Srinivas Rao was quoted saying that they would also launch a helpline to provide immediate assistance to the couples in case they face danger from anyone against their marriage. The report further states that the Police Headquarter (PHQ) has directed all district heads to set up helplines in compliance with a court order to help such couples across the state. Following the Rajasthan High Court’s direction, DGP Civil Rights Rao has kept ready a detailed draft to ensure the safety of the runaway couples who fear a threat to life and retaliation from hostile parents. Apart from this, the report informs that all police range and district heads are directed to appoint a senior most lady police officer at every district headquarter and police station as a nodal officer to help the couples for any issue. According to details available, the decision to make shelter homes was taken after DGP Kapil Garg suggested in the court to set up a shelter home for such couples who face a backlash from their parents for going against their wish.
