Landlord alerts police
The incident came to light at around 2.30 pm when the couple's landlord alerted the police control room, according to officials. A police team reached the rented accommodation in the Paper Mill area of Mahanagar and found Rashmi lying in a pool of blood inside the house. Preliminary investigations suggest that Himanshu allegedly attacked his wife multiple times with an iron rod, causing fatal injuries, police said. Accused posted with Lucknow Police
Himanshu, a 2011-batch head constable, was posted in the office of the Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) in Lucknow and worked in the Right to Information cell, according to the Times of India report. Police said Himanshu is a native of Ayodhya, while Rashmi was from Uttar Pradesh's Ambedkar Nagar district.
FIR registered, investigation underway
An FIR has been registered against Himanshu following a complaint lodged by Rashmi's brother, Saurabh Srivastava. DCP (Central) Vikrant Vir said the accused was in custody and was being questioned as part of the investigation. Mahanagar SHO Akhilesh Mishra said the reason behind the alleged attack was not immediately known and investigators were examining the circumstances surrounding the incident. Police probe motive behind killing
