One of the injured victims, Monika, reportedly died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Shahdol.
What Happened Before the Family Attack?
According to police, Prem Singh had been staying at his maternal grandparents’ house with his mother for around a week. Police said that on Friday night, Singh allegedly assaulted a priest at a village temple. Villagers subsequently caught him and tied his hands and legs before taking him to his maternal grandparents’ house. His mother reportedly untied him the following morning. Mother, Grandparents Among Those Killed
The accused allegedly first attacked his mother and maternal grandparents, resulting in their deaths. He then allegedly attacked his maternal uncle and his daughters. The injured victims were taken to Shahdol Medical College for treatment. Reports said the priest who was allegedly assaulted before the family attack was also receiving medical treatment. Police teams from Anuppur and neighbouring Umaria reached the village after receiving information about the incident. Additional personnel were deployed in the area.
Police Investigation Underway
A forensic team examined the crime scene and collected evidence as police began investigating the circumstances surrounding the killings. Prem Singh has been taken into custody. Police are investigating the motive behind the attack and the sequence of events leading to the deaths and injuries.
