NEET Aspirants Under Pressure
NEET is one of India’s most competitive entrance examinations, with candidates competing for admission to undergraduate medical programmes.
The pressure surrounding the examination has also been heightened by the NEET-UG 2026 controversy. The National Testing Agency cancelled the May 3 examination after allegations of a paper leak and ordered a re-examination for affected candidates. The re-test was subsequently held on June 21.
The government also ordered a CBI investigation into the alleged leak. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan acknowledged a breach in the examination system and said the government would take responsibility for addressing the lapses.
NEET Exam Controversy
The NEET-UG controversy triggered protests and demands for accountability, with concerns raised over examination security and the pressure faced by students.
A high-level committee headed by former ISRO chairman K Radhakrishnan had earlier recommended reforms to the National Testing Agency and the examination system. The government has also moved towards changes in the way major competitive examinations are conducted.
The recent developments have added to concerns around the experience of students preparing for highly competitive examinations. However, police have not established that the wider NEET controversy was a direct cause of Suraj’s death.
Vaijapur Police are currently investigating the case, which has been registered as an Accidental Death Report. The death has left residents of Khandala village shocked and mourning. Further details about the circumstances surrounding Suraj’s death are expected as the police inquiry progresses.
