The Tukaram Mundhe-led Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has intensified its regulatory enforcement across Mumbai, issuing suspensions and notices against multiple food business operators (FBOs) over critical hygiene and safety lapses.
Crackdown on Quick-Commerce and Major Outlets
The sweeping enforcement drive targets traditional dine-in establishments, manufacturers, and major participants in the expanding digital food-delivery and quick-commerce sectors. Among the prominent firms penalised is R. K. Associates & Hoteliers Pvt. Similarly, the FDA suspended the licence of Drogheria Sellers Pvt. Ltd., an entity linked to quick-commerce player Zepto. Authorities cited severe operational failures, including cockroach infestations, compromised cold-chain systems, poor overall hygiene, and the storage of expired food products.
Widespread Violations Across Eateries and Institutions
Other establishments targeted in the ongoing inspection sweep include Kothari Sweet, Mulund Farsan Mart, and Maharashtra Biryani Center, all of which faced licence suspensions due to unauthorised production activities, pest infestations, expired stock, and drainage lapses. Additionally, the FDA recommended the suspension of licences for Bombay's The Food Fusion Cafe and Shree Madhuram, the latter having operated as a restaurant despite holding a restricted hawker registration. Meanwhile, several operators tied to the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), such as Om Sai Ram Enterprises and Ambuj Hotels & Real Estate Pvt. Ltd., were served formal improvement notices. The regulatory body stated that the stringent measures are aimed at ensuring strict compliance with public health standards across all commercial food networks in the state.
