Four minors were rescued in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district after authorities received information that two underage couples were allegedly living together in live-in relationships. A separate case involving a Class 10 student was also reported.
Authorities in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi district rescued four minors after receiving information that two underage couples were allegedly living together in live-in relationships in the Padhar area. The children were later produced before the Child Welfare Committee (CWC), counseled along with their families and subsequently handed over to their parents.
The case came to light after the administration was alerted about the two underage couples staying together. According to officials, the four teenagers, two minor girls and two teenage boys, had all dropped out of school before the incident.
Minors Rescued After Living in Live-In Relationships
Following the information, a rescue team from the Child Welfare Department reached the location in Padhar. Officials said the four teenagers allegedly attempted to mislead the team during the rescue operation. However, they were eventually taken into protective custody.
After the rescue, the two boys were shifted to an open shelter home, while the two girls were accommodated at a one-stop centre before all four were presented before the Child Welfare Committee.
Teenagers Expressed Their Wish Before CWC
During proceedings before the CWC, the two girls reportedly told the committee that they wished to continue living with the boys and remained firm in their decision. The committee subsequently called the parents of all four teenagers and conducted counseling sessions with both the children and their families. Following the counseling process, all four minors were handed back to their families.
Child Welfare Committee Urges Parents to Stay Vigilant
Following the case, Child Welfare Committee Chairperson Alaknanda Handa urged parents to closely monitor their children's activities and education. She advised parents to ensure that children continue their schooling and seek assistance from the concerned authorities whenever they encounter problems affecting their children's welfare.
In a separate incident in Mandi district, a Class 10 student from the Gagal police station area who had allegedly eloped with a friend was traced to Nagrota in Kangra district. According to officials, the girl's mother had died while her father was unwell. She was also produced before the Child Welfare Committee, where she reportedly expressed her wish to live with the boy. Authorities have not disclosed further details about the case.
