Mangularu, January 24: Police on Friday brought Aditya Rao to the Mangaluru Airport or recreation of the crime scene as part of the investigation process. Rao has been in police custody for planting Improvised explosive device (IED) at Mangaluru Airport since January 21. He surrendered before Bangaluru police on Wednesday. The IED was recovered from a bag at Mangaluru airport in Karnataka on January 20 and was later defused in an open field by the bomb disposal squad. On Monday, at around 9 am, Rao had dropped the baggage, containing plausible explosive substances, at the Mangaluru airport. The bad was later spotted by the security personnel following which the bomb detection diffused it safely. Rao hails from Udupi and has engineering and MBA degrees. According to reports, the accused allegedly purchased six gelignite sticks from the dark web. Gelignite is particularly used for rock-blasting. As per police, he brought other explosive materials, including firecrackers, wires of different colours, online. In 2018 also, Rao was arrested for making a hoax bomb threat to the Kempegowda International Airport. He was then imprisoned for a year.
