Lucknow, August 28: In a tragic incident, a woman in Ghaziabad was brutally thrashed by a mob over suspicion of her being a child -lifter. According to a tweet by ANI, the 50-year-old woman was beaten up in Loni area on Tuesday. As soon as the incident was reported, Police rushed to the spot to take a stock of the situation. Police said that the woman went there with her grandson for shopping when the incident took place. "She went there with her grandson for shopping when people attacked her", a Police official said. He added saying that strict action will be taken against those who circulated a video of her on social media calling her a child-lifter. Soon after, the incident went viral on social media.

On Tuesday, the Ghaziabad Police had warned against spreading fake news. The move comes days after the information about a woman child lifter went viral on social media. Police have clarified that the news going viral on social media in this regard is 'fake'. "The suspected woman went out with her grandson when she was attacked by a mob on suspicion of child-lifting, near Johripur Loni border. She is not a child-lifter. The child who was spotted with her is her grandson named Nonu", Police said.

On August 27, a similar incident was reported from Jharkhand where a woman was thrashed by a mob over suspicion of being a child-lifter outside a bank. According to an ANI update, a woman left her son with her 8-year-old daughter outside a bank and went to withdraw cash. When she cam back, a group brutally thrashed her.
