Thiruvananthapuram, October 22: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a heavy rainfall warning over Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. The weather forecasting agency predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe. The IMD in its weather bulletin also forecast heavy falls at isolated places of Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, and Tamilnadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. Southwest Monsoon Withdraws Completely from India, Heavy Rainfall Hits Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka as Northeast Monsoon Begins.

According to a report published in India Today, orange and yellow alerts have been issued for parts of south interior Karnataka including Kodagu and Mysuru, while red alert has been issued for coastal Karnataka till Wednesday. In the wake of heavy rainfall, authorities declared a holiday for today in all schools of Tamil Nadu’s Ramanathapuram district. Heavy rainfall has been predicted by IMD in Coimbatore district of the state. River Pamba at Thumpamon in Pathanamthitta district and River Kaveri at Palakadavu in Trichur district of Kerala are continuing to flow above the danger mark. Similarly, river Ghatprabha at Gokak Falls in Belgaum district and River Krishna at Navalgund in Dharwad district in Karnataka are also flowing above the danger mark.

The IMD had recorded 58.1 mm rain from Sunday evening to Monday morning in Belagavi. Fishermen have also been advised not to venture into the sea. The weather forecasting agency also predicted heavy downpour over isolated places of Vidarbha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Arunachal Pradesh, east Assam, Nagaland, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Konkan and Goa.
