Police in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain district have arrested three individuals and launched a search operation for several others after a woman was stripped, had her hair cut, and was paraded through a village with a garland of shoes around her neck. The incident, which reportedly stemmed from an internal family dispute over ancestral property, occurred in the Arniya Vena village under the Jharda police station jurisdiction.

According to local authorities, the victim had arrived in the village alongside her current husband on June 30 to claim a share of family property and land for her two children. The dispute escalated when members of her former in-laws' family, alongside several villagers, allegedly broke into her residence, dragged her outside, and subjected her to physical assault and public humiliation. Ujjain Superintendent of Police (SP) Pradeep Sharma confirmed that the preliminary investigation points toward a backlash from the family regarding the property demands. While three key suspects have been apprehended, teams have been deployed to trace the remaining eight individuals identified in connection with the assault.

Law enforcement officials added that a separate investigation is underway regarding a video of the incident that was filmed and circulated on social media platforms. The individual suspected of recording and sharing the clip has been detained, and their mobile device has been seized for forensic review. In addition to the ongoing criminal proceedings, the local administration has initiated legal and structural safeguards for the victim. The District Legal Services Authority has been directed to provide the woman with comprehensive legal aid to assist with both the criminal case and her underlying property claims.
