A fatal chain collision involving multiple buses was reported in Mumbai on Thursday afternoon, May 14, between Amboli Naka and Rajkumar Bus Stop under the jurisdiction of the Oshiwara (PMI) depot, leaving a bus conductor dead. Officials said the accident occurred after a tree fell near Amboli Naka, disrupting traffic movement and causing several buses operating on different routes to remain stationary on the road.

According to officials, three Mateshwari buses became stranded following the tree fall, leading to a traffic queue and congestion in the area. Authorities said the incident occurred during afternoon traffic hours, further worsening congestion in the stretch. Officials said a PMI bus operating on Route 251, identified as Bus No. 4115 with registration number MH-01-FE 0620, was travelling from Andheri West towards Versova when it rammed into the stationary vehicles from behind. The impact caused a chain collision involving multiple buses parked in the traffic queue.

During the collision, a conductor from the front bus operating on Route 266/32, identified as Bus No. 7783, became trapped between two buses and sustained severe injuries. Officials said the injured conductor was immediately rushed to Cooper Hospital by the conductor of the PMI bus involved in the crash. Mumbai Coastal Road Closure: Police Issue Traffic Advisory for May 14 and 15.

However, doctors at the hospital declared him dead on arrival at 13:35 hrs. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased conductor. Officials said further investigation into the accident is underway. The incident caused traffic disruption in parts of the Andheri-West and Versova corridor for some time before normal movement was restored.

The accident also renewed concerns around road safety and traffic management during emergency situations involving fallen trees and stalled vehicles during the monsoon season in Mumbai.
