Mumbai, September 27: Private local trains may be seen on Mumbai tracks in future. According to a report in mid-day, the Indian Railways have included Mumbai suburban route in the list of private train operations. According to reports, all aspects of the suburban system will be open for private players. From maintenance of stations to customer services such as cleanliness, catering or entertainment inside coaches. The railways have already shortlisted long-distance routes for privatization and gave the mandate to Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) for Mumbai- Ahmedabad and Delhi-Lucknow route.

The IR has also proposed giving trains to private operators on long-distance or overnight journey trains on the routes of Delhi-Jammu/Katra, Delhi-Howrah, Secunderabad-Hyderabad, Secunderabad-Delhi, Delhi-Chennai, Mumbai-Chennai, Howrah-Chennai and Howrah-Mumbai.

Meanwhile, the IRCTC has already started bookings for the Lucknow-New Delhi Tejas Express, which will start from October 5 onward journey. The IRCTC's Tejas Express will be flagged off by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on October 4.
