Mumbai, January 20: Soon you would be able to do shopping in Mumbai local trains. The Western Railway is planning an onboard shopping service inside the Churchgate-Virar AC local train on the lines of in-flight shopping in planes. This will be the first time that onboard shopping service will be rolled out in a suburban local train. Last year, the WR had introduced "Shopping on Wheels" in long route trains. Passengers can buy skin and hair care products, cosmetics, stationery, laptop, mobile accessories, small toys and other items on MRP, Mumbai Mirror reported. According to reports, apart from cash payment, passengers travelling in AC local can buy goods using credit cards, debit cards, or UPI payment applications like- BHIM, Google Pay, Phonepe and Paytm.

Notably, this will be the first time that suburban local trains will generate non-fare revenue. Currently, many vendors and hawkers sell goods inside local trains, but it is illegal. Right now, WR operates only one AC train. Four more are expected to be brought into service.
