Mumbai Mega Block on August 16: Will Local Train Services Be Affected?
Railways will operate a mega block on Sunday, August 16, affecting Mumbai local train services on the Main, Harbour and Trans-Harbour lines. Fast trains between Thane and Kalyan will be diverted, while several Harbour and Trans-Harbour services will be cancelled. Special CSMT-Vashi trains will run, with no block on the Uran and Western lines.
Mumbai local train services will be affected on Sunday, August 16, as Central Railway will operate a mega block to undertake engineering and maintenance work on city's suburban network. The block will affect fast-line services between Thane and Kalyan on the Main Line and services between Vashi and Panvel on the Harbour Line from late morning to afternoon, with several trains diverted, delayed or cancelled.
Passengers travelling during the block period have been advised to plan their journeys accordingly. Special services will operate between CSMT and Vashi, while services on the Thane-Vashi/Nerul section of the Trans-Harbour Line and the Uran Line will continue as specified by Central Railway. Mumbai Mega Block on August 16
Main Line Mega Block Between Thane And Kalyan
The UP and DOWN fast lines between Thane and Kalyan will remain under block from 10.40 am to 3.10 pm. Down fast and semi-fast services leaving CSMT between 9.34 am and 2.17 pm will be diverted to the Down slow line between Thane and Kalyan.
These trains will make additional halts at Kalva, Mumbra, Diva, Kopar, Dombivli and Thakurli, apart from their scheduled stops. They are expected to reach their destinations around 10 minutes behind schedule. UP fast and semi-fast services leaving Kalyan between 10.28 am and 2.58 pm will similarly be diverted to the UP slow line between Kalyan and Thane.
They will make additional stops at Thakurli, Dombivli, Kopar, Diva, Mumbra and Kalva before being re-diverted on the UP slow line at Mulund. These services are also expected to arrive around 10 minutes late.
Down Mail and Express trains leaving CSMT and Dadar will be diverted onto the fifth line between Thane and Kalyan. UP Mail and Express trains arriving at CSMT and Dadar will be diverted onto the sixth line between Kalyan and Thane/Vikhroli.
Harbour Line Services Cancelled
The Harbour Line will have a block between Vashi and Panvel from 11.05 am to 4.05 pm. Down Harbour services towards Belapur and Panvel leaving CSMT between 9.45 am and 3.12 pm will remain cancelled.
Up Harbour services towards CSMT leaving Panvel or Belapur between 10.33 am and 3.49 pm will also remain cancelled. To provide relief to passengers, special trains will operate between CSMT and Vashi during the block period.
Trans-Harbour Services Also Affected
Trans-Harbour services will also face cancellations during the maintenance work. Down Trans-Harbour services towards Panvel departing Thane between 10.01 am and 3.20 pm will remain cancelled.
UP Trans-Harbour services towards Thane departing Panvel between 11.02 am and 3.53 pm will also remain cancelled. During the block, services will continue to operate between Thane and Vashi/Nerul.
Uran Line, Western Line Not Affected
Central Railway's schedule states that there will be no block on the Uran Line. The Western Line will also have no block during the period. The PORT Line will remain unaffected by the Harbour Line maintenance work.
Central Railway said the maintenance block is necessary for infrastructure upkeep and passenger safety. Passengers have been requested to bear with the administration for the inconvenience caused by the mega block and plan their travel keeping the revised timetable in mind.
