Mumbai, December 22: The Mumbai Police on Saturday arrested three men for allegedly cheating people across the country through escort websites. The Cyber Crime Investigation Cell (CCIC) of the Mumbai crime branch busted an online escort service racket during raids in the metropolis. According to a tweet by ANI, the racket was busted after a raid was carried out by a Mumbai Police hotel in Colaba. DCP Shivdeep Lande was quoted by ANI saying that two women and a minor girl were rescued from the spot.
Reports inform that a case has been registered and three accused have been arrested in connection with the crime. According to a report by Hindustan Times, the men would upload their contact numbers on different websites and take money from people. The report adds that the racket was going on for the past six years. As per reports, the cyber police after searching the numbers online, found the three men registered on several escort websites. Police informed that the accused had so far targeted around 500 people, most victims would not go to the police even after they lost money. The HT report states that the accused have been charged with obscenity, as to trap victims, they had uploaded obscene pictures of women along with their contact numbers on escort websites.
