Mumbai, July 3: In wake of incessant rains in Mumbai, several airlines including Jet Airways, IndiGo, Vistara have announced to accommodate delayed passengers in other flights. Heavy rainfall lashed the city since Monday and continued to create havoc even on Tuesday, disrupting normal life. According to details by India Meteorological Department, between 8:30 am and 11:30 am, Mumbai suburbs recorded 68mm rain (heavy) and south Mumbai 24 mm (moderate).

IndiGo announces free re-accommodation to all passengers who have missed reporting on time due to the traffic congestion due to the Andheri bridge collapse. The seats will be provided based on availability on the next flight, it said in a tweet.

Vistara airlines tweeted, “Due to heavy rains at Mumbai, traffic congestion on Mumbai airport road is expected due to waterlogging. Customers travelling from Mumbai are advised to allow more time for their journey to the Airport”.

The airline further tweeted, "Due to flyover collapse (Andheri Gokhale bridge) there is heavy traffic congestion on the road to Mumbai Airport impacting customers. We will accommodate customers who miss their flight, on seat availability basis in the next flight with no additional fee or fare".

Jet Airways took to Twitters and said, “Due to heavy rains in #Mumbai, we’ve issued a waiver on penalties for date/flight change, refund, no-show (including fare difference if any), on all confirmed tickets for flights operating to and from Mumbai for 3rd July 2018”. The airline expects a delay of up to 30 minutes at Mumbai airport until 3 pm.

Amid heavy rainfall, various flight arrival and departure were also delayed due to air traffic congestion caused due to heavy rains. According to IMD forecast, the city is set to witness heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours. “Heavy rain is expected to continue for Mumbai and surrounding areas for 48 hours (from Tuesday morning),” KS Hosalikar, IMD’s deputy director general (western region), said.
