Mumbai: Shalimar, Noor Mohammadi Hotel and Rehmania Restaurant Lose Licences in FDA Crackdown
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food licences of three Mumbai eateries and ordered the closure of an establishment in Amravati after inspections revealed serious food safety violations. Shalimar Hospitality, Noor Mohammadi Hotel and Rehmania Restaurant were found violating hygiene norms, while Amravati Darbar was operating without a valid food licence.
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has suspended the food licences of three Mumbai eateries and ordered an establishment in Amravati to stop operations after inspections revealed serious violations of food safety and hygiene regulations.
The action followed inspections conducted on July 13, 2026, under the Food Safety and Standards (Licensing and Registration of Food Businesses) Regulations, 2011. The establishments facing action include Shalimar Hospitality Pvt. Ltd. and Noor Mohammadi Hotel in Bhendi Bazaar, and Rehmania Restaurant in Umarkhadi. In Amravati, Amravati Darbar was issued a notice for immediate business closure after being found operating without a valid food licence.
Shalimar Loses Licence
According to the FDA, Shalimar Hospitality Pvt. Ltd. had previously received an improvement notice following an inspection in April. However, during a reinspection on July 13, officials found that 25 major deficiencies remained unresolved.
Inspectors reported issues including wet and slippery kitchen floors, absence of records for raw materials, drinking water quality and edible oil testing, improper segregation of vegetarian and non-vegetarian food items, and open windows without insect-proof screens. Due to the continued violations despite the earlier notice, the establishment’s food licence was suspended on July 14, 2026.
Noor Mohammadi Hotel Licence Suspended Over Hygiene Issues
The FDA also suspended the licence of Noor Mohammadi Hotel after inspectors found multiple hygiene-related violations in its kitchen and food handling areas.
Officials reported thick layers of burnt oil on kitchen floors, unhygienic storage of raw materials, peeling paint and grease accumulation on walls and ceilings, and the use of old and unclean utensils.
The inspection also found that the hotel did not maintain supplier records or potable water testing records. Open windows near the kebab section reportedly allowed flies, insects and even crows to enter the kitchen area.
Rehmania Restaurant Cited For Storage And Maintenance Violations
Rehmania Restaurant in Umarkhadi was also ordered to stop operations after officials identified several food safety concerns.
The FDA said the restaurant had inadequate storage arrangements for food, chemicals and packaging materials. Inspectors also found rusted equipment, peeling plaster, pest-prone doors and a lack of records for mandatory food and drinking water quality tests. The restaurant’s licence was suspended immediately following the inspection.
Amravati Darbar Ordered To Close Operations
In Amravati, the FDA issued a notice directing Amravati Darbar to immediately cease business operations after finding that the establishment was operating without a valid food licence.
The regulator said operating without a licence violates food safety regulations and poses risks to consumers.
The FDA said its inspections covered 32 hotels, restaurants and dhabas across Maharashtra. Improvement notices were issued to eight establishments, while the food licences of four establishments were suspended. The regulator reiterated that it will continue taking strict action against food businesses found compromising consumer health or violating food safety standards.
