Mumbai, January 17: Now mall, multiplexes, shops and restaurants can stay open 24x7 in the financial capital- the city that never sleeps. BMC and Mumbai Police have given their permission to establishments that fall under the 'gated communities' and non-residential areas, to stay open 24x7 from January 27, according to a Hindustan Times report.

This decision was taken in a meeting called by state tourism minister Aaditya Thackeray on Thursday. Representatives of shopping malls, hotels, restaurants and others attended the meeting. The permission has been given to atleast 25 malls and several other shops and restaurants across the city who can stay open throughout the night. However, the decision to keep which days open round the clock, the owners can decide. Several would prefer to keep it open Friday to Sunday if throughout the week is not feasible to them.

Atria Mall in Worli, R-City Mall in Ghatkopar, Oberoi Mall in Goregaon, Growel’s 101 in Kandivli Phoenix Market City in Kurla and High Street Phoenix in Lower Parel are some of the malls that have agreed for the 24x7 implementation. However, one thing that needs to be kept in mind is that these establishments can serve alcohol only until 1:30 am, and not beyond that, in accordance with the existing rule.

The restaurants have been cautioned to ensure that fire safety norms are followed. Permission to Kamala Mills is being reviewed as police will have to find out the feasibility of malls in the area.
