A speeding truck collided with a major water pipeline near Nalasopara on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway on Friday morning, sending a jet of water shooting 20 to 25 feet into the air and causing large-scale wastage amid already heavy monsoon rainfall in the Vasai-Virar region.

The burst pipe is part of the Surya Yojana network, the main water supply line that runs along the highway and serves Vasai-Virar city. Officials estimate that lakhs of litres of water were lost before repair work could begin.

How The Pipeline Burst

According to officials, a truck moving at high speed struck the pipeline at the site, causing it to rupture. The impact was strong enough to send water shooting several feet into the air, creating a fountain-like effect visible from a distance on the highway. Amit Satam Viral Video: Mumbai BJP President and MLA Seen Smiling During Rain Tragedy Discussion Sparks Political Row.

Visuals from the spot show water gushing continuously onto the road, with the volume adding to existing waterlogging caused by ongoing rain in the area.

Repair Work Underway

The Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation's water supply department was alerted soon after the incident and began repair work on a war footing. Officials have said the repairs are expected to take a few hours to complete.

Heavy rainfall in the region has complicated the repair effort, and water supply is expected to remain disrupted in parts of Vasai-Virar until the work is finished. Traffic And Waterlogging Impact

The burst pipeline has added to waterlogging on the highway and in the surrounding stretch, worsening traffic conditions in an area already dealing with heavy monsoon rain. Commuters passing through the Nalasopara stretch have reported slower movement as water continues to spread across the road.

The incident adds to a string of monsoon-related disruptions across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region this week, with several areas recording over 100 mm of rainfall in 24 hours.
