Cloudburst Alert For Nashik-Trimbakeshwar Belt
Addressing the media, Fadnavis said weather inputs indicate the possibility of a cloudburst forming over the Nashik-Trimbakeshwar region on Tuesday, driven by a developing low pressure area. He said Nashik has been identified as a high alert zone for the day, with the situation likely to significantly impact both Nashik district and Nashik city.

The district administration has already begun preparations considering the possibility of a major cloudburst situation," Fadnavis said, adding that officials are keeping a close watch on the developing weather system. Nearly 300 mm Rainfall Expected
According to the Chief Minister, forecasts point to close to 300 mm of rainfall in parts of the Nashik region due to cloudburst like conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cloudburst alert for the belt between Nashik and Trimbakeshwar for July 7, with the intensity of rains across the state expected to remain high till July 8. Nashik district holds particular significance as it is the origin of the Godavari river, India's second longest river, raising concerns over the downstream impact of heavy rainfall in the region.
Schools And Colleges Shut In Five Talukas
As a precautionary measure, authorities announced a holiday for schools and colleges in the talukas of Nashik, Trimbakeshwar, Dindori, Igatpuri, and Peth. The district administration has reviewed possible emergency scenarios and taken precautionary measures to deal with any situation arising from the expected heavy rainfall.
Broader Rain Crisis Across Maharashtra
The Nashik warning came as Fadnavis chaired an emergency review meeting at the State Emergency Operation Centre in Mantralaya, amid relentless rainfall, flooding, and landslides reported across several parts of the state. Disaster Management Minister Girish Mahajan and senior officials attended the meeting.
Fadnavis said Palghar and Vasai-Virar are among the worst affected regions, while rail services between Gujarat and Mumbai have been severely impacted, with passengers being diverted through the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway. He added that Raigad district, coastal Maharashtra, Lonavala, and Mahabaleshwar are likely to continue receiving extremely heavy rainfall over the next several hours, and that the Savitri river is overflowing along with other rivers in the Western Ghats.
NDRF, SDRF Redeployed, Expressway Restoration Underway
Fadnavis said nearly 300 trees fell due to unprecedented winds a day earlier, with gusts of 50 to 70 kmph expected to continue. He said NDRF and SDRF teams have been redeployed in view of the Nashik cloudburst alert, and that district administrations across the state have been placed on high alert.
Restoration work is underway on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway after landslides disrupted road and rail connectivity between the two cities. Three lanes of the highway are currently operational from Mumbai to Pune, and one lane from Pune to Mumbai, according to Fadnavis.
Appeal To Citizens
The Chief Minister appealed to citizens across the affected regions to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and follow the instructions of local authorities as the state continues to battle heavy monsoon rainfall.
