Why Was the Tiranga Protest Planned?

The ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ protest was called amid demands for the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and the release of CJP members Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka, who were placed in five-day judicial custody following an earlier protest at Jantar Mantar. The protesters have raised concerns over alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls and accused the Election Commission of bias. The Election Commission has denied favouring any political party, while the BJP has rejected allegations that the electoral process is being manipulated.

Security Tightened in Central Delhi

Security arrangements were strengthened around Connaught Place ahead of the planned demonstration. Authorities imposed restrictions on gatherings under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), while the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) closed Central Park for two days.

Police said the proposed march had not received the required permission. A notice issued to Dipke clarified that displaying the national flag was not prohibited, but an unauthorised gathering in violation of prevailing restrictions could invite legal action. The latest detentions came amid continuing protests by activists and student groups demanding accountability from the Election Commission over the electoral roll revision.
