Gyanesh Kumar Faces Opposition Criticism Amid Protests
The controversy has intensified in recent weeks, with opposition leaders and members of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) movement demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the electoral process.
On October 15, the Supreme Court issued notices to the Centre and Delhi Police in proceedings concerning the removal of Jantar Mantar as a designated protest site. The court also issued notices to Gyanesh Kumar and the two other Election Commissioners in a separate challenge involving aspects of the electoral revision process.
The developments have added to the debate over electoral transparency, the Election Commission's independence and the right to peaceful protest. Kishor's latest remarks add to the criticism of the poll body's functioning, with the Jan Suraaj founder warning that public demonstrations would follow if the Election Commission failed to act impartially.
