The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has upgraded its online member services, bringing key EPF-related facilities together through its digital platforms. Members can check their provident fund details, file eligible claims, update KYC information, manage nominations and access other services online, reducing the need to visit an EPFO office or depend on an employer for routine tasks. EPFO says it has also completed a major database consolidation and software upgrade to improve service delivery.

The revamped member interface provides direct access to services including "Know Your UAN", claims, passbook access, e-nomination, KYC updates, PF transfers and death-claim filing. However, there has been an important change to the UAN process: UAN activation through the portal and direct UAN allotment through the portal have been discontinued, with EPFO directing members to use Aadhaar-based Face Authentication (FAT) through the UMANG app for these functions, Livemint reported.Β EPFO Urges Employers To Enrol Uncovered Workers Under Special Drive: Check Last Date, Eligibility and Process.

8 PF Services Employees Can Access Online on New EPFO Portal

UAN Activation And Allotment

The EPFO member portal continues to display an "Activate your UAN" option, but its latest notice says the facility for UAN activation through the portal has been discontinued.

EPFO now directs members to activate their UAN through Aadhaar-based Face Authentication on the UMANG app. The same process applies to generating a new UAN. Members are instructed to select EPFO Services in UMANG and then choose the relevant UAN service under "UAN Services Through Face Auth".

The portal also lists "Know Your UAN", allowing members to retrieve their Universal Account Number using basic details.

A separate "Direct UAN Allotment" option is displayed on the interface, but EPFO's latest notice makes clear that direct UAN allotment through the portal has been discontinued.

Withdraw PF Online

Once the necessary conditions are met, members can submit eligible PF claims through the member interface. EPFO's FAQ states: "Member can apply for a. PF Final Settlement (Form19), b. Pension Withdrawal Benefit (Form10-C) and c. PF Part Withdrawal (Form31) from the Member Interface directly".

For Form 19, the member's date of joining and date of exit must be available in the EPFO database. The member should not be working in a PF-covered establishment, and the claim should be submitted not before two months after leaving the establishment.

For Form 31, eligibility depends on the purpose and applicable service conditions. EPFO's online-claim instructions provide for Aadhaar-based authentication and state that the member's online advance claim serves as a self-declaration where applicable.

Check PF Passbook And Balance

Members can view their EPF passbook and claim status through the official EPFO passbook service. The passbook portal also provides balance-enquiry options through a missed call to 9966044425 or by sending "EPFOHO UAN < LAN >" to 7738299899.

EPFO's latest portal notice says it has "successfully completed a major database consolidation and software upgrade to enhance service delivery and improve the member experience."

The organisation has said member and employer services are being made live in a phased manner. It has also cautioned that claims and service requests may undergo additional verification and validation during the initial post-migration period, which could result in longer-than-usual processing times for some services.

File Your E-Nomination

The member portal states: "Filing of nominations by members is mandatory as per EPF Scheme,2026. E-Nominations can be filed and updated during service period".

An updated nomination can help ensure that eligible family members or nominees can access applicable EPF, pension and insurance benefits following the member's death, subject to the relevant rules and claim requirements.

Update KYC Details

The EPFO member interface provides facilities related to KYC and member details. Aadhaar and bank information are particularly important for online services and claim processing.

EPFO's online-claim requirements state that Aadhaar details should be seeded in the EPFO database and that the member's bank account and IFSC code should also be seeded. PAN is required for PF final-settlement claims where the member's service is less than five years.

Keeping these details updated can help avoid problems when submitting eligible claims online.

Transfer EPF Account Online

Members changing jobs can use EPFO's online services for eligible PF account-transfer requests.

The ability to handle transfer-related requests online is part of EPFO's broader effort to reduce dependence on physical paperwork and office visits. Members should ensure their UAN and KYC details are correctly linked before attempting online services.

File Death Claims

The member portal has dedicated facilities for nominees and family members, including "Death Claim filing by Nominee (Claims)" and "Death Claim filing by Nominee (Pension) - Pension Claim filing by Family or Nominee in case of member’s demise".

The availability of these online facilities is particularly relevant for families dealing with a member's death, although the claim remains subject to applicable eligibility, nomination and verification requirements.

What Members Need Before Filing Claims

Several online EPFO services depend on basic information being correctly available in the EPFO database.

For online claims, EPFO lists an activated UAN, Aadhaar seeded in the database and a bank account with IFSC code among the requirements. PAN is required for PF final-settlement claims where service is less than five years.

EPFO's online claim process also uses OTP-based authentication linked to Aadhaar. Members should therefore ensure that their mobile number is available for the required authentication process.

The latest changes mark another step in EPFO's move toward online member services. The upgraded portal consolidates access to several routine functions, while UAN activation and allotment have shifted to Aadhaar-based Face Authentication through UMANG.

At the same time, EPFO's database consolidation and software upgrade means members may encounter phased processing and additional verification while the system stabilises. The organisation has asked members to avoid repeated attempts during peak hours or repeated submissions of the same request.

Members should use only official EPFO platforms and remain alert to fraud. EPFO specifically warns that it does not ask members for Aadhaar, PAN, bank details, OTPs or payments over calls or messages.
