The accident took place near Tawa village in Dahanu taluka, triggering chaotic scenes as people hurried toward the damaged vehicle to collect the leaking liquid.
According to preliminary details, the tanker carrying milk hit a road divider, jumped the lane, and flipped over at 3 pm while travelling from Gujarat towards Virar in Palghar, the PTI reported. Villagers Gather With Containers to Collect Milk
Soon after the tanker overturned, several villagers made a beeline for the site and were seen collecting the spilled milk. Videos of the incident show local villagers and drivers passing by on the national highway rushing to the spot and collecting milk in plastic bottles, drums, cans, and household utensils.
The sudden gathering of people alongside the damaged vehicle complicated immediate relief operations. While the tanker driver reportedly suffered minor injuries, no casualties or major injuries to bystanders were reported from the scene.
Local police teams and emergency responders reached the spot shortly after receiving alerts about the highway collision. Officers cordoned off the leaking area to prevent any further road accidents and worked to disperse the gathering crowd.
Local police had a tough time clearing the crowd and the tanker, officials said, adding that the accident affected traffic for a couple of hours, the news agency reported. Movement on the Mumbai-bound carriageway was subsequently normalised after cranes removed the overturned vehicle and the carriageway was cleared of spillage.
