Patna, September 29: While India reels under rising fuel prices, there is a place in Bihar where petrol and diesel are being sold at Rs 20 per litre lesser than the rest of the country. This is being made possible by locals in Bihar's Supaul, who are smuggling petrol and diesel from Nepal, where the price of petrol is Rs 69 per litre. An interesting thing to note here is that Nepal gets most of its supply of petrol and diesel from India. Fuel Rates Continue to Peak; Petrol Price Nears Rs 91 Per Litre Mark in Mumbai, Diesel Inches Towards Rs 80 Per Litre.

According to a News18 report, locals in the areas closer to the India-Nepal border in Bihar, cross the border through narrow lanes and bring about 50 to 100 litres of petrol and diesel and resell them. The report says that the locals neither get caught nor are they scared of getting caught since the border is an open border. Fuel Stations in India Are Getting Ready to Display Three-Digit Rates, Rs 100 per Litre May Become Reality

The locals reportedly get the pass that is required to cross the border at a minimal amount. The pass allows a person to roam around Nepal for 4 to 5 hours and return to India. However, this smuggling is not new. Reports suggest that whenever something is expensive in one country of the two, that particular product is smuggled from the other country.

Meanwhile, petrol and diesel prices hit new record highs on Saturday, September 29, with petrol and diesel rising by 18 paise per litre and 22 paise per litre respectively. While petrol price neared Rs 91 per litre mark in Mumbai, diesel price neared Rs 80 per litre.
