Prayagraj: Ganga Water Enters Bade Hanuman Temple as Ganga-Yamuna Levels Rise (Video)

The rising waters of the Ganga and Yamuna rivers entered the sanctum sanctorum of the famous Shri Lete (Bade) Hanuman Temple near Triveni Sangam early Sunday morning, filling the premises and submerging the feet of the reclining deity.

According to temple priests, the river water reached the inner chamber around 3:45 AM. The arrival of the Ganga into the temple was greeted by priests and local devotees with traditional rituals, drumbeats, and the chanting of Vedic mantras. The phenomenon occurs almost every monsoon when upstream discharge into the Ganga and Yamuna surges due to heavy regional rainfall. For locals and millions of pilgrims across the country, the entry of the Ganga into the low-lying temple is not viewed merely as seasonal flooding, but as the sacred annual "Maha-Snan" (ceremonial bath) offered by River Ganga to Lord Hanuman.

Over the past week, continuous rainfall in catchment regions and increased water release from upstream barrages—including the Kanpur, Haridwar, and Narora dams—have caused river levels across Uttar Pradesh to swell rapidly. Low-lying areas near the Triveni Sangam, such as Daraganj and Baghada, remain under close observation by district authorities.

While irrigation officials report that the water levels of both rivers are currently flowing below the critical danger mark of 84.73 meters, flood relief centers and emergency control rooms have been activated across Prayagraj as a precautionary measure. Public entry into the temple inner complex will remain restricted until the floodwaters recede and safety checks are completed by local administration.
