Prayagraj, February 14: A 17-year-old student preparing for the National Defence Academy (NDA) examination was found dead in Uttar Pradesh’s Prayagraj on Saturday. While initial findings suggest the teenager died by suicide following a breakup on Valentine’s Day, his family has formally alleged foul play, claiming the boy was murdered following a period of blackmail and physical assault. The victim, identified as Aman Giri, was an intermediate student who had been in a relationship for approximately eight months with a fellow student he met at a coaching center. According to police sources, the relationship had recently become strained after the girl expressed a desire to end the partnership, reportedly leading to a series of heated disputes. Local police arrived at the scene and recovered Giri's body from a noose. Officials stated they also discovered a letter indicating that the girl intended to break up with him. However, the victim’s family has rejected the suicide theory, pointing to the physical state of the body and prior events as evidence of a potential crime. Nidhi Giri, the victim’s sister, alleged that her brother did not take his own life. She claimed the girl had recently fallen in love with someone else and that her friends had previously assaulted Aman and confiscated his mobile phone. Furthermore, the family alleged that the victim had been subjected to blackmail, claiming he had even given away his mother’s jewelry to satisfy demands made by the girl. Adding to the family's suspicions, the victim’s uncle, Dhirendra Pratap Giri, noted that the position of the body—specifically that the boy's legs were bent downward when discovered—suggested he may not have died by hanging himself. Based on these allegations, the family has filed a formal police complaint against the girl and several of her associates. Authorities have confirmed that an investigation is underway and that several individuals have been detained for questioning to determine the exact circumstances leading to the teenager's death. The body has been sent for a post-mortem examination to clarify the cause of death.
