Pune Sessions Court Awards 20-Year Jail Term For Woman Planning Gangrape of Minor, Sentences Three Others For Life

Pune, January 11: Pune Sessions Court on Thursday gave a landmark judgment sentencing a woman and three men for 20 years in a gangrape case of the 12-year-old girl. The 34-year-old woman, sentenced for 20 years rigorous imprisonment, was described as the ‘kingpin’ for plotting the gangrape of the minor and is latter’s aunt.

According to court verdict, the gangrape was planned by her aunt while the minor visited her during the summer vacations in Mundhwa in 2016. During her stay, she was taken to flats in Mundhwa and Kharadi on different occasions, between April 13 to May 25. In all these places, her aunt indulged in sex with three men in front of the girl and coaxing the latter to do the same. In the statement submitted to the court, the girl had said that on May 14, the woman took the minor to her father-in law’s flat at Pingle Vasti. After entering the flat, the woman pushed the girl on the floor and gagged her mouth. Then two men held the arms and legs of the minor, while the third sexually assaulted her.

The case for outraging girl’s modesty was registered by her parents on May 31, 2016, after she returned to her home in Vidharba and told about her aunt engaging in sex in front of her. Later, the girl confided about the gangrape by three men and recorded the statement before a magistrate.

Taking stern action, police arrested the woman on June 29, 2016, and since then she has been lodged in the Yedawada Central Jail. Though the Supreme Court had granted bail to three men earlier, but after the verdict, police sent all the three to jail again.
