Mumbai, March 27: Police have launched an investigation into the death of a 20-year-old man who reportedly ended his life by consuming poison in Puneโs Jambhulwadi area. Mohammed Saad Asif Sayyad, originally from Malegaon in the Nashik district, recorded a video on his mobile phone prior to his death, alleging persistent mental and emotional harassment by his wife and in-laws. Following the incident, Pune Police registered a case of abetment to suicide against seven individuals named in the recording.
The deceased sent the video to a friend in Malegaon before consuming rat poison on Thursday. According to police reports, Sayyad had been embroiled in ongoing domestic disputes with his wife, Karimunnisha (also known as Nisha Khan). Investigators confirmed that the video serves as a primary piece of evidence, as it specifically identifies the individuals Sayyad claimed were responsible for his distress.ย Maharashtra Shocker: Teen Dies by Suicide in Beed After Mother Refuses Permission To Play Outside Due to Intense Heat.
Based on the evidence recovered from the victim's phone, the police have officially named seven people in the First Information Report (FIR). Those listed include his wife, Nisha, along with Sarwar (alias Kaif Khan), Reshma Kamrukhan, Shama Javed Sheikh, Javed Sheikh, Atharva Kale, and Ishita.
A police official stated on Friday that the case has been categorized under abetment to suicide. The mobile phone used to record the final message has been seized by the police for a detailed forensic examination. Technicians will analyze the metadata and the contents of the video to verify its authenticity and establish a clear timeline of events.
"The mobile phone has been seized to facilitate a forensic examination of the video," a police official confirmed. This digital evidence is expected to be a cornerstone of the prosecution's case as the investigation moves forward.
Sayyad had moved from his hometown of Malegaon to Pune, where he resided in the Jambhulwadi locality. While the specific details of the domestic conflict remain under investigation, preliminary reports suggest a pattern of emotional abuse that Sayyad felt he could no longer endure.
The police are currently recording statements from the victim's family in Malegaon and his acquaintances in Pune to build a comprehensive profile of the circumstances leading up to Thursday's events.
