Dogs Suddenly Emerge From Behind Car
According to the footage, the woman is walking with her child when a dog suddenly comes out from behind a parked car and attacks her. Another dog then appears from behind the vehicle.
The sudden attack frightens the woman and, amid the pain and panic, she loses her balance. The child falls from her arms and is injured. Local reports identified the woman as Amruta Uday Basannawar. The incident was reported at around 11.04 am near K.G. School in the Madhuban Society area. Citizens Rush To Help
Hearing the commotion, local residents immediately reach the spot and help the mother and child. The video shows people comforting the child and checking on the woman after the attack.
The footage of the incident has since circulated on social media, prompting renewed concern among residents about stray dog attacks in Pimpri-Chinchwad.
Residents Raise Complaints Against Civic Body
Residents have alleged that repeated complaints about stray dogs have been submitted to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation’s veterinary department. They claim that effective action has not been taken despite the complaints.
Aggressive packs of stray dogs have reportedly become a concern in areas including Chikhali, Old Sangvi, Wakad, Bhosari and Chinchwade Nagar. Residents have particularly raised concerns about the safety of children, women carrying babies and senior citizens.
Dog Bite Cases Rise Sharply
According to official PCMC data cited in reports, reported dog-bite cases have increased significantly in recent years. Around 13,800 cases were recorded in 2021-22, while the number rose to more than 38,000 in 2025-26.
The rise comes amid several reports of serious attacks in the region. In a recent incident in Chikhali, a five-year-old girl was attacked by a pack of seven stray dogs and suffered serious injuries requiring more than 80 stitches, according to reports.
Residents and animal welfare activists have linked the growing concern to gaps in animal birth control and anti-rabies vaccination programmes. They have also raised concerns about the limited capacity of sterilisation centres and the availability of cages needed to temporarily house dogs during the process. The latest incident in Old Sangvi has again put the focus on the municipal corporation’s measures to control the stray dog population and prevent attacks in residential areas.
