The incident follows the killing of 17-year-old Ganesh Ravindra Malve, who police said was allegedly attacked with sharp-edged weapons by a group of seven juveniles near Katraj Lake on Monday night over an old rivalry. A murder case has been registered, and the investigation is underway.
Videos of Police Parade Go Viral
According to police, Bharati Vidyapeeth Police detained the accused after the murder. During heavy rain, three of the juveniles were tied to the front of a police vehicle and paraded as a large crowd gathered at the spot.
Multiple videos of the incident have since surfaced on social media, with users widely sharing footage of the police action. The police have not yet issued an official statement regarding the viral videos or the manner in which the accused were paraded.
Woman Seen Hitting Accused With Slipper
In another widely circulated video, a woman, believed to be a relative of the deceased teenager, is seen approaching one of the accused and striking him repeatedly with her slipper.
Police personnel can be seen intervening and attempting to move her away from the accused. The video has also been widely shared across social media platforms. The identity of the woman has not been officially confirmed by the police.
Teen Allegedly Killed Over Old Rivalry
According to the FIR, Ganesh Ravindra Malve had gone to collect his mobile phone from a repair shop near Katraj Katta Hotel when he was allegedly confronted by the accused.
Police said the juveniles attacked him with sharp-edged weapons following an earlier dispute. The teenager sustained multiple injuries and was declared dead after being taken to hospital.
A murder case has been registered at Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Arms Act and the Maharashtra Police Act. Police said all the accused are juveniles and that further investigation into the case is continuing.
The viral videos have generated significant discussion online, while authorities are yet to comment on the circumstances surrounding the public parade of the accused.
