New Delhi, April 29: The Central government on Monday asked the Supreme Court to grant it additional time to file a fresh affidavit in the case involving Rafale fighter jet planes. The bench, headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi, was also requested to defer the hearings scheduled tomorrow for a later date.

The court has agreed to the government's plea, and has asked it to submit a circular to all parties concerned informing them of the adjourning of tomorrow's hearing. Rahul Gandhi Files Fresh Affidavit 'Regretting' Attributing 'Chowkidar Chor Hai' Comment to Supreme Court

The Centre was earlier asked by the court to file a fresh affidavit against the plea filed by activists reviewing the court's earlier verdict of not ordering a high-level probe into the defence deal.

Update by ANI:

The apex court had on April 10 dismissed preliminary objections raised by the Centre that documents on which it claimed "privilege" cannot be relied upon to re-examine the verdict in the Rafale fighter jet deal.

The petitioners have sought a review of the court's erstwhile order, which ruled out a probe into the Rafale deal with French arms manufacturer Dassault Aviation.
