Thiruvananthapuram, January 11: Kerala MLA Rahul Mamkootathil was taken into police custody on Friday after a third complaint alleging S*xual assault was registered against him, police officials confirmed. The latest case was initiated after the police received a detailed complaint via email from the survivor, prompting immediate legal action.
This marks the third such case against the legislator. In the two earlier complaints, Mamkootathil had received interim protection from arrest and was granted anticipatory bail by the court. However, officials said the fresh allegations warranted custodial questioning as part of a comprehensive probe. A special police team has been constituted to investigate the matter, and the MLA is currently being questioned in Pathanamthitta district. Senior officers said the investigation is being carried out with due seriousness, given the gravity and repetition of the allegations.
Allegations in the Latest Complaint
According to the complaint, the woman alleged that she came into contact with the MLA through social media during a difficult phase in her marriage. She claimed the interaction later developed into a relationship, during which Mamkootathil allegedly promised to marry her.
The complainant further alleged that the MLA suggested marriage would be easier if she became pregnant. However, she claimed that he later forced her to undergo an abortion and questioned the paternity of the unborn child. The woman stated that the mental pressure and emotional stress caused by these actions led to a miscarriage. In addition to the S*xual assault allegations, the woman has accused the MLA of seeking financial favours from her during the course of their relationship.
Police officials said all aspects of the complaint, including claims of coercion, financial exploitation, and forced abortion, are being examined. Statements are being recorded, and digital evidence, including communication records, is also under scrutiny.
Authorities said further legal steps will be decided based on the outcome of the ongoing investigation.
