A 19-year-old man in Rajasthan’s Pali district was arrested for allegedly carrying out a series of thefts in neighbouring houses after he struggled to pay instalments on an iPhone he had gifted to his wife, police said. According to police, the accused had purchased an iPhone 13 for his wife on monthly instalments but later found himself unable to keep up with the payments. Investigators said financial pressure allegedly pushed him toward burglary, as reported in Dainik Jagran.

Jewellery, Cash Stolen From Nearby Homes

Police said the accused allegedly targeted houses in his neighbourhood and stole gold and silver jewellery, along with cash, over multiple incidents. The thefts were reported in different areas of Pali, prompting a local investigation. During questioning, the teenager reportedly confessed that he had turned to theft mainly to arrange money for the iPhone instalments and meet other expenses. Robbery Gone Wrong in Kota: Thief Gets Trapped in Exhaust Vent While Entering House in Rajasthan, Video Goes Viral.

Police Recover Stolen Items

Authorities said they recovered a portion of the stolen jewellery and other valuables from the accused. Officials added that further investigation is underway to determine whether he was involved in additional theft cases in the area.

Police have registered a case and taken the accused into custody. Details regarding the total value of recovered items and the number of affected households are yet to be officially disclosed. Rajasthan Shocker: 8-Year-Old Student Dies As Handball Goalpost Falls on Him in School.

Rising Concerns Over Financial Pressure and Consumerism

The incident has drawn attention locally due to the unusual motive linked to smartphone instalments. Consumer finance experts have often pointed to the growing popularity of easy EMI schemes for premium smartphones and electronics, particularly among young buyers.

While instalment-based purchases have made expensive gadgets more accessible, financial stress linked to repayment obligations has also become a concern in some cases. The police, however, said the investigation remains focused on the theft allegations and recovery of stolen property.
