New Delhi, February 27: A red alert has been issued for Delhi Metro on Wednesday in the wake of increasing tensions between India and Pakistan. All the metro trains of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) are put on high alert from 6 pm onwards. The DMRC also issued a statement regarding the alert. Officials have been directed to carry out a full inspection of all the metros stations for any suspicious items or activities including parking lots.

According to DMRC statement, the station controllers have also been asked to report to the Control Centre every two hours. Around 2.5 million commuters travel daily through Delhi metro. Meanwhile, a tension between both the countries has escalated after the February 14 Pulwama attack in which 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) personnel were martyred. Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) claimed the responsibility of the attack. Meanwhile, two weeks after the attack, the Indian Air Force (IAF) destroyed JeM launch pads in Balakot, Muzaffarabad and Chakothi districts of Pakistan.

A day after the air strikes by the IAF, the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) today violated the Indian air space. In the engagement one PAF’s F-16 fighter jet was shot down. Meanwhile, the IAF also lost one Mig-21 Bison aircraft. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and the IAF, in a joint briefing, confirmed that an Indian pilot is in Pakistan's custody, but did not reveal the identity of the pilot. Meanwhile, Pakistan claimed that the IAF personnel that they apprehended is Wing Commander Abhinandan Varthaman.
