Ghaziabad, July 25: On the occasion of Saawan Shivrati 2019 on July 30, all the schools and colleges will remain close in Ghaziabad from July 26 to July 30. The district administration has also issued instructions for the same. The decision comes from the office of District Magistrate Ajay Shankar Pandey. This move has been ordered keeping in mind the rush anticipated for the Kanwar yatra. The holiday will also ensure the safety of the children and law and order in the city. Similarly, in Meerut, all educational institutions will remain closed from July 25 to July 30 because of Kanwar Yatra 2019. The decision was taken by Meerut DM and will be applicable for the government as well as private schools.

"All educational institutes- including schools, colleges, Anganwadi centres will remain closed from July 25 to July 30 in view of 'Kanwar Yatra-2019. The decision is binding for schools of all boards – both government and private. While the decision of Kanwar yatra break is till July 29, but the off will be extended for July 30 too as it is Shivratri," Satendra Kumar, Meerut Basic Shiksha Adhikari said.

The schools will reopen on July 31. The Kanwar Yatra is an annual pilgrimage of Bhole or Lord Shiva's devotees. The pilgrims, called as Kanwariyas, visit Haridwar, Gaumukh and Gangotri in Uttarakhand to fetch Ganga water which is later offered to Lord Shiva.
