The disproportionate assets case against suspended Kishanganj SDPO Gautam Kumar has entered a new phase, with the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) now examining the finances of a woman domestic worker employed at his residence. The development comes days after large-scale raids uncovered assets worth approximately INR 80 crore linked to the officer.
Investigators have identified the woman, known as Paro, as a key figure in the evolving inquiry. According to officials familiar with the case, she is suspected of handling financial transactions on Kumar’s behalf and may have acquired significant assets through his support. SDPO Gautam Kumar-Paro Link Emerges as EOU Tracks Financial Network in Assets Case
Sources indicate that Paro’s financial profile has drawn attention due to her apparent accumulation of wealth. Visuals circulating online show her with high-value items, including vehicles and large sums of cash, prompting further examination by authorities.
Officials believe she may have acted as a proxy in managing or holding assets. Since the EOU initiated a separate probe into her activities, Paro and her family members have reportedly been untraceable, adding complexity to the investigation. Raids and Suspension
The latest developments follow coordinated raids conducted across Kishanganj, Patna, and Purnia, where investigators reported recovering assets disproportionate to Kumar’s known sources of income. The Bihar government subsequently suspended him on April 7.
The EOU has stated that the investigation is focused on tracing how the assets were accumulated and identifying individuals who may have facilitated or benefited from the transactions.
According to the agency, preliminary findings suggest that Kumar may have been amassing wealth to support the political ambitions of a woman associate. Investigators allege he was preparing to field her as a candidate from Kishanganj and was also planning a political career for himself after retirement in 2030. These claims are part of an ongoing probe and have not yet been tested in court.
Property Network and Asset Trail
The investigation has uncovered a complex network of property holdings allegedly linked to Kumar. Officials claim he acquired at least 16 plots in Purnia, registering them in the names of multiple associates and family members, including partners and relatives.
Additional assets under scrutiny include a tea estate, a bungalow, and a two-storey building in Siliguri. Authorities are now working to map the ownership structure and trace the movement of funds across these properties.
The EOU continues to expand its inquiry, focusing on financial trails, benami holdings, and possible accomplices. Officials say the role of individuals like Paro will be critical in understanding how the assets were managed and concealed. Further developments are expected as investigators attempt to locate missing persons linked to the case and consolidate evidence.
