New Delhi, August 19: Days after Shah Faesal was detained at the Delhi airport, the former IAS officer moved a habeas corpus plea in the Delhi High Court challenging his detention. According to reports, the court has sought a response from Centre and fixed August 23 as the next date of hearing. Shah Faesal, Arrested at Delhi Airport, Was Heading to ICJ to Raise Article 370 Issue: Report.

The former bureaucrat was detained at the airport on August 14. He was taken into custody shortly before his scheduled departure on board a flight to Turkey's Istanbul. Faesal was then sent to Kashmir where he has been placed under house arrest at his Srinagar-based home.

Recently reports surfaced that Faesal was on his way to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) when he was detained at the airport. He was reportedly scheduled to reach the ICJ in The Hague, Netherlands, to file a case against the Indian government for scrapping special status of Jammu and Kashmir by diluting the Article 370. However, Faesal's mother Mubeena Banoo had stated that the former bureaucrat was planning to go to the US in connection with his academic pursuits and had also planned to visit Turkey. Faesal resigned from the civil service in January this year in January 2019. The former IAS officer and Shehla Rashid then founded the Jammu Kashmir People's Movement (JKPM) party.
