Three people were killed and three others injured after a car carrying six people collided with a truck on the Purvanchal Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Sultanpur district early Wednesday, October 7. The victims were reportedly travelling from Lucknow to Deoria after taking part in a tennis event.

The victims were reportedly travelling from Lucknow to Deoria after taking part in a tennis event. The accident took place around 5 am near milestone 97.5 in the Sukhabadheri area. According to police, the car rammed into the rear of an unidentified truck. The impact left the vehicle badly damaged and trapped several occupants inside.
The deceased were identified as Nitya Prajapati, 22, Irfan Ansari, 20, and Aniket, 24, all residents of Deoria district. The injured were identified as Anand Yadav, 23, Raju, 22, and Jayanto Sharma, 30, from West Bengal’s Birbhum district. Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) personnel and local police reached the spot after receiving information about the crash. The occupants were rescued from the damaged car, and the injured were initially taken to a hospital in Kumar Ganj before being referred to the medical college in Darshan Nagar, Ayodhya, for further treatment. According to the injured Jayanto Sharma, all six occupants were professional tennis players and had travelled to Lucknow for a tennis event before starting their journey back to Deoria. He reportedly said that the passengers were asleep when the accident occurred and that he could not determine how the collision happened. Police have launched an investigation into the crash and are attempting to trace the unidentified truck involved in the collision. A Times of India report said police were also examining whether the driver may have dozed off, though the circumstances of the accident remain under investigation.
