Law enforcement officials in Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Dibang Valley district dismantled an alleged s*x racket following a late-night raid at a local resort on Sunday, May 3. The operation, conducted in the Meka area of Roing, led to the rescue of four women and the detention of several individuals, including the resort's owner and manager. Acting on specific intelligence regarding illegal activities, a team from the Roing police station carried out the surprise inspection on Sunday night. During the raid, four women who had reportedly been brought from the Tinsukia region of Assam were rescued.
Officer-in-Charge Tania Uli confirmed that the individuals were caught engaged in prostitution at the time of the operation. Alongside the rescued women, police took the resort manager, the owner, and multiple customers into custody for further questioning. Investigation and Public Complaints
Preliminary investigations suggest a cross-border element to the racket, with women being brought in from outside the state to serve a primarily local clientele. Officials noted that the department had been receiving a steady stream of public complaints and confidential tips over the past few days concerning "immoral activities" at the establishment. The resort, identified in local reports as Lego Resort, was also found to be operating without a valid license. A case has been officially registered at the Roing Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act (ITPA).
Government Response
Arunachal Pradesh Home Minister Mama Natung commended the police team, led by Ringu Ngupok, for their swift intervention. In a social media statement on Monday, the Minister reaffirmed the state’s stance on such operations. "Our government maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards social evils and illegal activities," Natung stated. He emphasised that the establishment was operating illegally and assured that the law would take its "strictest course" to protect the state from exploitation.
