Maha FDA Intensifies Food Safety Inspections
The Maharashtra FDA has been conducting inspections of hotels, restaurants, clubs and other food businesses as part of a wider food safety enforcement campaign. The department's latest inspections have covered both conventional food establishments and businesses operating through online and quick-commerce delivery platforms.
The FDA is the state's principal regulatory authority responsible for enforcing food safety standards and ensuring compliance among food businesses. Domino’s Pizza Licences Suspended by Maharashtra FDA at 4 Outlets Over Hygiene Violations, 3 in Mumbai.
14 Licences Suspended In Online Food Delivery Drive
During the August 13 special inspection drive, FDA teams inspected 86 establishments selling food through online delivery and quick-commerce platforms.
The department suspended 14 food business licences, while one establishment was directed to stop operations immediately. Another 60 establishments were served improvement notices requiring corrective measures. The inspections covered businesses associated with platforms including Blinkit, Zepto and Instamart, according to reports on the FDA's action.
Dairy Products Worth INR 34,302 Seized
The FDA also seized 698 kg of milk and dairy products valued at INR 34,302 during its statewide enforcement action.
In addition, officials reported the seizure of around 1,270 kg of other food products, including milk and dairy items, bakery products and edible oil, with a reported value of about INR 1.29 lakh. The seizures formed part of the department's broader action against food safety violations.
Action Against Banned Products
The FDA also took action in separate cases involving banned products such as pan masala and gutkha. Officials registered 10 FIRs and arrested nine people in connection with those cases. Stock valued at approximately INR 46.76 lakh was seized.
The action against banned products was separate from the food-hygiene inspections but was included in the department's statewide enforcement activity.
Earlier Mumbai Inspections
The latest action follows several rounds of inspections in Mumbai in recent weeks.
Earlier inspections resulted in food licences being suspended at establishments including Otters Club in Bandra, Daily Fresh Bakers in Dahisar, Prince of Wales Restaurant in Khar, Cafe Sifarish in Andheri and a Zepto facility in Chembur. Officials reported problems involving food storage, temperature control, pest control and general maintenance at some of the premises.
In a separate inspection drive in July, the FDA had also suspended licences of several prominent Mumbai clubs and gymkhanas over reported hygiene and food-safety violations.
The department's latest action indicates that inspections will continue across Maharashtra as authorities seek to enforce food safety and hygiene requirements.
For establishments whose licences have been suspended, operations involving the affected food business licence cannot resume until the regulatory requirements are addressed and the authorities permit further activity. The FDA's ongoing campaign covers hygiene, food storage, handling, temperature control and other requirements intended to protect consumers.
