Chennai, May 10: In a harrowing incident, a girl set herself and her boyfriend on fire on a moving bike on Thursday evening after she suspected he was cheating on her in Tamil Nadu. The duo were critically injured after a self-immolation attempt in Mayiladuthurai. The victims, identified as N Sinduja, a 20-year-old BA Economics student, and R Akash, a 24-year-old BCom student, set themselves ablaze amidst suspicions of infidelity.

According to The New Indian Express, the incident occurred near Vijithrayar Street, near the Government Women's Arts College hostel, where Sinduja resides. According to police reports, Sinduja had been carrying petrol in her bag, which she used to douse herself and Akash before igniting the fire. Bystanders rushed to extinguish the flames, and the victims were initially taken to Mayiladuthurai General Hospital. Due to the severity of their injuries, they were later transferred to Government Tiruvarur Medical College Hospital for further treatment.

In July last year, a 41-year-old man surrendered at the Devakottai police station after he allegedly murdered his wife with a sickle over doubts about extramarital affairs. According to the police, Prabakaran and his wife Suriya (30) were residing with their five-year-old daughter in Kasilingam Nagar near Devakottai.
